The Golden Seal-Yu Yu Hakusho the movie.

            It’s a typical summer’s day. Yusuke and his friend Kuwabara are being confronted by an army of thugs. One attacks them but Yusuke simply trips him up. 

            “That’s for starters. Why don’t you punks do yourselves a favor and just go home. You won’t win.”

            The thugs don’t listen and attack. Yusuke and Kuwabara ready themselves when suddenly they hear someone yelling Yusuke’s name. When they look up they see Botan flying at them on her oar screaming something about there being big trouble. A tunnel to the Spirit World opens sending all the thugs flying in different directions.  Yusuke and Kuwabara run after Botan as she leads them to the Spirit World.

            “Listen Botan! We’re trying to enjoy our summer vacation. If this is an order from Lord Koenma, I’m ignoring it!”

            Botan tells them that Koenma had been kidnapped. When they arrive in the Spirit World they are joined by Hiei. Koenma’s servant the Blue Ogre is kneeling on the floor sobbing. After some encouragement he tells them what happened.

            “It all began after Lord Koenma planned a vacation at a trendy beach site.”

            The ogre tells them that he had caught the whole thing on video. One point during the tape a gigantic demon comes out of the sand and grabs Koenma. The demon introduces himself as Garuga and that if they wanted to see Koenma alive again, they would have to bring the Golden Seal to Magma Valley by sunset. Or else Koenma would die. Botan shows everyone the golden seal and explains its importance.

“It’s well known that who ever gains control of the seal gains control of the Spirit World. It must never be taken from here. If someone else got their hands on it, order and balance would be disrupted resulting in chaos through out dimensions. If that happened King Enma himself could be exiled from the Spirit World.”

Yusuke picks up the seal and puts it in his pocket. Much to the protest of Botan and the Ogre. Yusuke states as much as he doesn’t like Koenma he still can’t allow him to be killed. And that he didn’t plan on letting the kidnappers to keep the seal either. He then asks Botan to guide them to magma valley. Kuwabara suddenly notices that Hiei is no longer with them. But figures he left because he didn’t care. The Ogre says that he would contact Kurama since his help may be needed. 

Botan, Yusuke, and Kuwabara all rush off to save Koenma. In the meantime at magma valley, Garuga is holding Koenma over one of the many lakes of lava. He hears a voice tell Koenma that his servants had just left the Gate of Judgment. The speaker reveals himself to be a child no bigger then Koenma by the name of Koashura. Koashura tells Koenma that he’s going to take over Koenma’s position at the Gate of Judgment. Koenma tries to warn him that would cause a lot more trouble then he realizes. But Koashura doesn’t listen.

Koashura has Garuga tie Koenma to a stake that was standing on a crumbling rock face. So that if the seal wasn’t there by sunset he would end up falling into the magma.

            Botan, Yusuke, and Kuwabara are running through a quarry when suddenly a group of demons confront them. One of the demons tells them that was their territory and they didn’t like trespassers. And demands they give them the Golden Seal. Yusuke and Kuwabara try and punch their way through the demons. Some Demons on the cliffs side start to push large rocks into the quarry. Yusuke, Botan, and Kuwabara run for it, dodging boulders, pipes, and girders that try to block their path. Yusuke sees some rocks begin to fall over the quarry exit. Yusuke uses his shot gun to blast his way through them. 

            At magma valley the cliff crumbles further causing the stake Koenma’s tied to tip precariously towards the lava. Koenma demands that Koashura tell him why he’s doing all this. Koashura doesn’t answer instead he just says that Koenma should already know why this was happening.

            “You should know better then anyone why I brought you here! That’s right, you were real mean to me and thought you were a lot better then I was.”

            Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Botan now are rushing through a dead forest. Yusuke asks Kuwabara how the demons that they had just escaped from knew they had the golden seal.

“I don’t know. It’s too early for the rumor mill to be working. But if everybody and his brother knows about the seal, we’re gonna be moving targets until the missions over.”

At that moment they’re attacked by vines. Botan points out their attacker is a Rock-tree monster. Sure enough a demon appears out of the one of the trees and demands that they hand over the seal.  Yusuke prepares to fire his Spirit Gun but the demon simply moves to another tree to show how useless Yusuke’s attack is on him. Another demon -a winged one- flies at Yusuke and knocks him to the ground. The seal flies out of Yusuke’s pocket allowing the winged demon to pick it up. Botan flies at the demon attempting to retrieve the seal from him. But the demon simply knocks her off her oar. Yusuke and Kuwabara rush to save her but the Rock-tree monster traps them in a cage that regenerates itself every time they try to break free. Then he attempts to slay Botan. Fortunately Kurama appears slicing off the demon’s branch like fingers as well as the vines forming the cage. Before jumping in the air and catching Botan and landing her safely on the ground. The winged demon tries to make a break for it. But Hiei finishes him off and retrieves the seal.  He tosses the seal to Yusuke and tells them to continue. Kurama and Hiei kill the demons that are running after their friends.

Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Botan are rushing as fast as they can trying to get to magma valley in time. More demons attack them. Kuwabara calls forth his Spirit Sword and uses it to help launch Yusuke up to the cliffs over looking Magma valley. He himself gets plastered on the rock face.

Koashura tells Garuga that maybe they should free Koenma. If they don’t he could die. Garuga says that it’s the fault of Koenma’s servants if they don’t make it on time. Yusuke arrives and says he has the Golden Seal. Koashura tells Garuga to release Koenma then demands the seal be given to him. Garuga picks up the seal and says that he now controls the Spirit World. Koashura yells for Garuga to obey him. Garuga scoffs and says that Koashura was merely a means for him to get the seal before he tosses Koashura to the ground near Koenma. Yusuke yells that he knew a child couldn’t have planned the whole thing by himself and fires his Spirit Gun to blow Garuga away. Garuga opens his chest plate and reflects Yusuke’s attack back at him before he transforms. Garuga it turns out was really a demonic fugitive named Yasha. Yasha kicks Koenma and Koashura aside sending them off a cliff. Koenma manages to grab hold of an out cropping and Koashura grabs onto Koenma.  Botan rushes to save them but Yasha knocks her out with his tail. Yusuke angrily attacks Yasha but Yasha effortlessly pounds him. Yasha ends his assault by throwing Yusuke into a near by wall and then shoulder slamming him so that Yusuke leaves a human shaped imprint on the wall.  Kurama and Hiei who have somehow managed to peel Kuwabara off the rocks arrive just in time to see Yusuke fall limply to a small ledge. Yasha turns his attentions to the two children who are holding on to the rock for dear life. Yusuke however comes to and gets Yasha to pay attention to him again. Yasha is surprised that Yusuke can still stand up and asks why he would sacrifice himself for someone like Koenma. Yusuke proudly answers.

“It isn’t the young boy who I would die for, but the king he will one day be.” 

            Kurama and Hiei use this momentary distraction as a moment to rescue Koenma and Koashura. Kuwabara tends to Botan. Yasha attacks Yusuke. Yusuke fires his Spirit Gun at Yasha who reflects it back. Yusuke jumps out of the way of the blast. The blast hits the rock wall causing a stream of lava to burst forth and hit Yasha. Yasha jumps out of the lava perfectly alive and irritated. Yusuke is disappointed that the Lava didn’t work in killing Yasha. That is until he notices some of it has sealed Yasha’s chest plate shut. With the last of his Spirit Energy, Yusuke fires one last Spirit Gun and blows Yasha away. Yusuke loses consciousness just before the cliff he’s on gives way. Botan rushes down on her oar and catches him.

            After Yusuke is safe on solid ground Botan tends to Yusuke’s injuries. Koenma then asks Koashura to explain what he meant by this conspiracy.

            “I never meant to hurt anyone. I only wanted to get back at Koenma for the way he treated me in Spirit World kindergarten.” Koashura explains that he had a crush on a girl named Kotenyo. One day he was going to give her a birthday present. But Koenma appears, knocks Koashura down and ends up unknowingly smashing the present Koashura had got for Kotenyo. Koenma gives Kotenyo a bouquet of flowers as a birthday present and the two go off arm in arm leaving a tearful Koashura wanting revenge on Koenma.

            Later Yusuke and Kuwabara talk about what happened with Botan. The Golden Seal was returned to where it belonged and the Spirit World is safe. Yusuke asks about what happened to Koashura. Botan tells them that he was given a light punishment because he was under Yasha’s influence so he was only given ten-thousand spankings. Yusuke bursts out laughing and says that his victory was only luck. Kuwabara and Botan angrily yell at Yusuke. Yusuke rushes off saying he has a date.
