Name: Genkai (but Yusuke seems to have a tendency to calling her Granny/Old Hag or something equally disrespectful)

Age: 70+

Height: 4'3" (shorter than Hiei. She seems to be the shortest person on this show, though I do not know Yukina's height)

She is first introduced in Yusuke's second spirit detective case, when a demon named Rando is trying to steal her fighting technique. She is known for her Reikou Hadouken fighting style, which she eventually passes on to Yusuke. Yusuke undergoes Genkai's rigorous training.

Her relationship with Yusuke develops over the course of this training and further on during the Dark Tournament. Yusuke develops a strong attachment to her, even though the majority of things said between them are insults. She becomes a mixture of a mother (a tough one at that), a mentor, and a respected fighter in his eyes and consequently after her death he is crushed.

Before her death, Genkai gives Yusuke her spirit wave, hastening her demise with this decrease of power. She though, is quite aware of the fact, but continues none the less because she believes in Yusuke.

During all this, her past with Toguro is revealed, and certain ties are shown. They were partners in the past, a great team, when Genkai was at her prime. Toguro became obsessed and didn't want to pass that prime, he wanted to be even more powerful and stay young forever. That's when the two parted ways, and they meet again, and fought and it resulted in Genkai's death. This severely affected Yusuke's performance in the Dark Tournament and became one of the main reasons to defeat Toguro (? I have a bad memory).

Though when the Dark Tournament is won, they get their wish and Genkai returns to them once again. It seems like everything is just perfect.

And then on to the next season, Genkai is the one to inform Yusuke of the danger ahead with Sensui. Though, I did enjoy how she tricked Yusuke and made the group's new helpers seem like villains at first. Typical Genkai for you.

Sensui reveals to Yusuke during their battle that he has harnessed "Sacred Energy" , something that even Genkai couldn't master because she didn't have the will. Thus Genkai's seemingly endless wisdom and power is surpassed making Sensui someone really to fear.

Genkai is a person that all the group could look up to, and always had advice and information for them. I respect her wisdom that she has gained over the years that she has fought. I respect her even more because she is a human and still managed to have quite a reputation among the demons.
